S.O.S. Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to Feeding Program
Developed by Dr. Kay Toomey, the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding program is an effective way to address problematic feeding behaviours. Children do not eat for a variety of reasons, which is later reinforced by behaviours learnt to avoid eating. There is rarely an easy solution to their eating. It usually will take some time to unravel.
The SOS feeding program uses a multidisciplinary team approach which assesses the child, looking at oro-motor skills, behaviour, development, cognition, sensory processing, nutrition and the environment.
The SOS approach provides a comfortable, acceptable and playful way for the child to move forward with their eating.
